Label Info:
Polytechnic Recordings located in Denver, CO USA was founded by Bill Thomason (aka Bitfiend, B:ill, Kid-B and Render) in 2006. Not many musicians can move around the many genres of music as easily as Bill, having been a drummer since his mid teens and a DJ since his early twenties. He instinctively understands rhythm at his core and it is a universal appeal he taps into easily. Whether he is DJ'ing in a club or behind his drum-set on stage, he creates and plays music that gives emotion a voice and creates a journey for the listener. Bill's passion from producing and DJ'ing over the years inspired him to start his own label.
With only a few releases out, he joined up with longtime friend Jason Owen in 2007 to help market the label. Jason has always been influenced by music, but never had a 'clear focus' on doing anything with it until now. His interest in DJing started in 1992, but didn't really get going until 1997. Unfortunately, the last time he touched turntables was July 4th, 2004. His love for the music however, has never died.
Once 2007 came to an end, 12 singles had been released. The start was a slow, but considered the perfect baby step for what was to come.
In 2008, things were at full speed with 26 releases for the year. The roster grew with regular releases from Derek Howell, Jerome Robins, Yura Popov, Python, Overcast (Ben Coda) and others. The releases included massive remix support from Jody Wisternoff, Benz & MD, Shiloh, Matt Rowan, Mike Hiratzka, Pete Lunn, James Warren, Royal Sapien and Darin Epsilon.
2009 was no different. Polytechnic released 44 EP's, 3 full length LP's with mixed versions, and 3 album samplers. The roster continued to grow with artists Andy Newland, Phrakture, Felix Stone, Samy Fresh, Jaap Ligthart, Jay Smith, DjKiRa, Colin C (aka The Pushers, Slighter and Visitor 7) and Shiloh. By the end of 2009, over 100 artist contributed to Polytechnic Recordings massive growth.
Polytechnic Recordings thrives on multiple genres; Progressive House, Breaks, Tech-House and even dabble in a some DnB. It is their philosophy to let multiple people come up with their own interpretation of a remix with very little input from Polytechnic. The creative control rests with the artist and/or remix artist.
As for 2010, there is plenty of surprise in store for this year and next. The only thing we can mention now is a massive project that started 6 months ago. Really, that is all we can mention!! Stay tuned.
